Hello and welcome to the first NCBI Labs Technology Newsletter.=20

We will be sending out this newsletter regularly to keep you up to date =
with all things technology related.=20

As someone with low vision, I firmly believe technology is the single =
biggest enabler for anyone with a vision impairment. Technology removes =
the barriers to education, employment and allows people with sight loss =
to fully engage with life and be independent.=20

NCBI Labs is the technology department within NCBI and offers a number =

This Tuesday we are hosting our 4th live event on the 28th of April at =
14:30 / 2:30pm.=20

We are delighted to welcome Hans J=C3=B8rgen Wiberg, the founder of Be =
My Eyes, a very popular app with our service users. Hans will give us an =
overview of the app and talk about the best way to use it for sighted =
assistance. =20
=20
We also will be demoing some of the great ways in which those with sight =
loss can use Google Home. Finally we have an interview with an NCBI =
service user on how they use technology to overcome some of the issues =
with sight loss.=20
=20
The events are run using Microsoft Teams, which is a free application =
you can use in your web browser or download to your computer, tablet or =
smart phone.=20
=20

We offer a dedicated support line and email address for technical =
support related to assistive and mainstream technology.=20

The is service is free for people with sight loss and their families. We =
also offer technical advice on assistive technology to schools and =
employers.=20

The Technology Support Helpdesk is operated between 09:00 to 17:00 =
Monday to Friday.=20
