Minutes of such meetings are really great to receive by you and others
of FB and we of course thank you for thosem.
I wonder if I could make a suggestion, if folk post a thank you to the
list they could still do it in the normal way but if someone wishes to
make a comment perhaps they could put 'comment' added in in the subject
line so that we all don't need to read the 'thank yous' going to and fro.

Jackie noted that the IOS voices have changed in recent updates.
Pronunciation of certain words have become very bad. Pat remarked that he
changes voices around to achieve improved pronunciation. Dominique, needing
to refresh the Irish voice (Moira), found that she could not delete it until
she switched to a different voice to release it.
A few members reported that Gmail account errors are coming in since
upgrading from IOS 13.
Dominique reported that she found a way to delete email messages in bulk by
selecting "Edit" from the top right of the list of email messages; swiping
right to "Select All" and then going to the bottom right of the screen to the
delete button. After confirming the action all the selected messages are
deleted.
There was some surprise that an open email message can be deleted by
accessing the "Delete" button at the bottom of the screen to the left of the
"More actions" button.
Jackie attempted to sign in to Audible through Safari and received a warning
email reporting unusual activity on her account and asking her to confirm
that she was really the person who had been conducting the activity. She was
aware that there was a danger that if she failed to confirm the legitimacy of
the action, her Amazon Prime account could be deleted and all her purchases
cancelled.
Jackie and Ken experimented with Facebook Messenger and found that it now
accommodates up to 20 people in a group video call. They warned that the
quality of the call could deteriorate due to the heavy load of multiple video
users.
Aisling is using a Galaxy S7 phone to receive video-based school material
that she needs to share page by page with her young child. She was looking
for a way to convert the image text into speech so that she could access the
pages non-visually while her child looked at the pages in their visual form.
Bert suggested using Seeing AI to read out the text. Jackie advised that she
should save the page images into the camera roll. Then open them in Seeing AI.
Another suggestion was to use Voice Dream to scan the images so that they
could be spoken seamlessly while the child reads the image.
It was thought that perhaps Sight and Sound would have a solution from the
experience of the Child vision school.
Bert recommended using Drop Box to enable storage of photos and videos so
that they could be accessed from any device. He found Drop Box easier than
Google drive for this purpose.
Ken found a way to solve the problem reported last week in which audio books
on Audible were opening at a location that was not where he had left off
reading. He found that turning off WIFI and Data before opening Audible on
his iPad meant that the reading position was retained. He noted that it was
preferable to have no interruptions while reading and so these services were
not necessary.
Jackie pointed out that the problem could be solved for reading groups if the
account holder would turn off "Sync across devices" in Audible settings.
Gavin needed a means of reading handwriting with JAWS. Seeing AI was
recommended as it has a channel devoted to handwriting. He will experiment
with sharing emails with Seeing AI and report back next week.
Derry and Martha reported a successful experiment with a group meeting on
WhatsApp. The maximum number of participants has grown from 5 to 8. It is
imperative that all participants have the latest version of WhatsApp.
Martha reported that the Facebook Messenger app is working very well and
noted that users need a Facebook account but do not need to have the Facebook
app open to access the Messenger. Ken pointed out that the host or one friend
needs to be present to permit a person to join the group.
Jackie and Bert described the new-look audible app. Once open, you are
automatically in the cloud. Jackie found the count of books downloaded is
inaccurate when sorted by genre. This new look has been automatically rolled
out and is not optional.
Martha reported that the MovIt app is very handy for announcing bus stops and
times although it does not report streets. She described a work around by
which she sets MovIt to report bus stops to a point further than her real
destination so that she gets an early warning of her approaching stop. She
found this to be helpful as Cork buses are not very well fitted with
announcements.
The meeting thanked Bert for a link to the Blindsquare audio tutorial that
proved very informative.
