Cearbhall great feedback as usual. Unfortunately I lost last half hour of
meeting as my connection went down. I expect this is as a result of extra
usage at present but annoying when it happens.
Kind regards,
Noreen

Subject: [fb-exchange] Exchange Club meeting Saturday the 2nd of May 2020
In attendance: (14 participants)
Elaine O'Neill; Cearbhall O'Meadhra; Ken Walsh; Noreen Meagher; Jackie
McBrearty; Pat MacCarthy; Derry Walsh; Martha Parkinson; Chris Egan; Gavin
Allman; Declan Meenagh; Bert Brown; Pat Walsh; Aisling Kane.
Declan reminded all that laptop users of Zoom can press alt-a to mute and
unmute their audio. When audio is muted, the laptop user can press the space
bar to unmute audio temporarily while speaking.
Derry reported that Joan Ann Brosnan has just been appointed to a full-time
job in Apple. All extended their congratulations to Joan Ann for her success
and wished her well in her new appointment.
Cearbhall, Bert and Pat discussed the problem of editing bookmarks in Voice
dream reader. The conclusion was that it was difficult to get meaningful text
into the bookmark to serve as a clear reminder. Cearbhall felt that the only
option was to delete an unsatisfactory bookmark and try to highlight meaningful
text in the browser window to be captured in a renewed bookmarking process.
Pat reported that he was getting on well with his new iPhone sE and finds an
improvement in details reported by Seeing AI due to the improved camera. He is
concerned that the battery needs recharging more often than in his old iPhone
6s. Ken and Jackie agreed that they had received similar reports of the battery
performance in the new iPhone SE. Chris pointed out that batteries normally
charge rapidly up to 80% full and slowly for the last 20%.
Bert was experiencing severe drop outs in his WIFI service and so used his
iPhone as a hot spot to enable him to connect to the meeting from his iPad. He
pointed out that this draws heavily on data and so is only practical where one
has unlimited data usage.
Declan said that he was able to access the zoom meeting through Skype where a
user was not getting enough time to enter the meeting code while dialling in
from a landline. Skype gives the user plenty of time to enter the meeting
number after dialling in to zoom over the landline. He found that Skype credit
was essential to do it.
Bert reported that he can use his dial up phone to dial the Zoom number with
the meeting id appended.
Chris reported that he is having trouble with his WIFI. The group recommended
that he try turning the router off and on again after a short interval. Jackie
and Declan recommended percussive maintenance if all else fails!
Pat Walsh wondered if there is a time limit on books downloaded from Bookshare.
The group assured him that the downloaded books can be kept permanently by each
user.
Ken wondered why Audible seems to try to force him to open an audio book at a
location where someone else had stopped and not where he had stopped listening.
The group recommended that he download the book to his device and then read it
without linking to the online library. That way, Audible should open at his
last location correctly. Bert recommended turning off air drop to avoid
conflicts while downloading audio books to the iPad and iPhone.
Martha was delighted to score 6 extra credits from Audible through the generous
support of Audible's online helpers.
Jackie signed up for the Revolut prepaid credit card which gives her instant
information on any payments made on her behalf by her PA.
Gavin was advised that Facetime is very accessible on the iPhone. This led to a
discussion on how to include a description of included images in a Facebook
message. Jackie explained that each person should add a description in the
alt-text of the image.
she recommended:
1. Add the photo to your post
2. Share the post on Facebook
3. Navigate to your post and select the photo in the post 4. Press down on the
photo 5. In the menu that displays, select Edit Alt Text 6. Delete the
auto-generated alt text and enter your own alt text 7. Select Save
Martha described a successful session with "Be My Eyes" on the iPhone when she
had to top up the gas meter. The Be my eyes assistant was able to read the
screen on the meter and guide her to enter the appropriate codes.
The meeting ended.
All the best,
Cearbhall
