Hi Folks, Weather does not look great for the rest of this week, but the
state examinations are coming in a week or two, and the weather always
improves as soon as the Leaving Cert. starts.
There were 11 participants for todays Technology meeting.
Things got underway with Jackie telling us about the brilliant way of
attaching a word file quickly .
If working on a Word file for example, and you want to send this word file
to a colleague quickly, do the following:
Press the alt key while on the Word file, and arrow up to quick access
tool bar, then Tab across to e- mails, and enter here, the word document
given a heading before, will attach itself to the person that your sending
the mail to,
And the subject line on your e mail, will have the name of your word
document as well.
This is a great bit of useful I. T. information from Jackie.
Mary wanted to know why when she gets an mail which contains a link to
another persons e mail, that if she enters on this link, why it does not
allow her to send that person an e mail.
Bob, said that one should right click on this link to give her the option
to send that person a mail.
This can also be done as Cearbhall pointed out that by using the key
strokes Shift + F 10 this engages the context menu.
Joe asked how can he increase and decrease the volume of sound from Jaws.
Several people contributed to this topic, like Eamon who said that pressing
the Insert key(jaws key), plus the spacebar and the letter J,
Will bring up all the options that occur whilst using Jaws, Here you can
enter the query about volume, and you should find the answer.
Jackie Also suggested using the key strokes insert key plus spacebar plus
the letter v then the letter s for sound.
If somebody knows a simpler set of instructions for adjusting the Volume
of sound from Jaws, please send an e mail to the list.
Vera told us of her knowledge of applying for a passport on line. She uses
a firm close to Winn's hotel in middle Abbey street, who take her passport
photograph, but then send these photos to the Department of Foreign
Affaires, with a code number so as the passport office knows who it is and
when the photograph was taken.
There was much discussion on finding out your Default apps . And how to
change them.
Use the Windows key and go to search and type in Default, this will bring
you to your default applications, like Firefox or Microsoft Edge, and you
can select the one you wanted by pressing the space bar on the one you want.
You will find out your e mail application and your sound app, and so on.
Cearbhall was the mail speaker here and he locates most things by using the
Windows key first plus the search bar.
There was more discussion on using O. C. R. or Adope to read P. D. F.
files.
Pros and cons were given for both ways of reading PDF FILES BY Jackie and
Cearbhall.
Jackie said that Jaws cannot read ocr with Edge, you must use Adobe.
