In attendance: Derry Walsh, Martha Parkinson, Cearbhall Ó Meadhra on
speakerphone, Noreen Maher on phone, Pat Carroll also on phone. Aoife O Donovan
visiting.
Cearbhall started by telling us about the iPhone calendar and issues that a
member of the Dublin exchange was having with keeping track of appointments via
calendar on iPhone.
Martha asked about email client other than windows live mail. Cearbhall
suggested adding a short-key for easy access. Cearbhall and Martha will go
through this later in the week.
Derry asked the group if anyone else had gotten notification regarding Google
security updates. Some of the group members had advised that they had also
received similar notification regarding security update. General consensus was
to ignore them.
Group discussed two-step verification with passwords and answering an
additional security question. Martha told the group she already does this when
accessing her payslip.
Martha asked about the iOS 12.3 update. Noreen mentioned she has already
updated and has no problems.
The group chatted with Pat about what technology he is currently using. Pat
told us that he uses an Android device and is currently doing the ECDL without
the aid of assistive technology.
Martha asked the group if anyone was having issues with Siri. Martha told group
that when she asked Siri to send message Siri would tell her the message was
not delivered and not long later the person she messaged would be replying.
Martha asked if anyone else had same issue. Noreen told group she had similar
issue but Siri would tell her to try again later. Cearbhall asked if phone is
locked when trying this.
Martha told group issues she was having with connecting to her Wi-Fi from both
phone and iPad. However her Alexa devices remain connected. This issue was
fixed by rebooting the modem. This lead to a discussion on some of the features
that Alexa provides such as calling other echo devices.
Noreen and Martha talked about accessible appliances. Martha told group about
her new blender. It is a cookworks blender from Argos. It has suction base and
a physical dial that clicks with each setting. Noreen spoke about her new oven
and the level of assistance she received when she went to purchase it.
Noreen was having issues with voiceover not reading her messages in full.
The group spoke briefly on how the virtual aspect of the Cork Tech Club works
very well.
On behalf of the Cork Tech Club, I would like to thank Aoife for very kindly
taking the notes.
Next meeting Saturday 22 June 2019 at 11.00am in the Cork City Library, Grand
Parade Cork.
Regards,
Martha
