She went to her folder, and highlighted the folder, and using the key stroke
shift +f10 , which opens her application menu, she found only the options
close or move folder.
Bert simulated Mary’s, problem and did the same thing using Jaws, and he
got the option of remaming the folder.
Declan did the same thing using NVDA, and was able also to rename the folder.
Declan talked Mary through installing the screen reader NVDA, and see if
this would make a difference.
It worked and Mary was able to rename her folder.
Mary was using a Lenovo laptop, and Bert said that the application menu was
not working before with another user.
Bert suggested that Mary uses an external keyboard to see if this would make
a difference doing the same thing using Jaws.
Bert said that it is important to have pane view, not on.
To quit NVDA again, Mary used the key stroke insert+ letter q to quit Nvda,
and use control +alt +letter J, to restart Jaws again.
Declan was great in solving Mary’s problem, well done Declan.
Control+ f6 +will get you to your folders.
Eamonn thought using f2 would do the same thing, but when Mary tried this it
did not work for her.
Some great short cuts were discussed then like ALT+LETTER R will bring you to
your user account.
Your user account contains things like your Dropbox account and so on.
Cearbhall said alt plus letter W, if you enter on this and do control plus
letter o, it will bring up all your recent saved files.
Also from Cearbhall control plus Z, will undo the mistake that all of us
make from time to time.
There were several other good key strokes, but my digital recorder broke down
and this is all I can remember.
Tom wanted to know if one can create a marker for a place remotely.
Paul said that this was possible buy going to the menues in soundscape.
Type in the name of a post office or shop or bank, and you can create the
marker from home.
Tom needs to create a marker for his walks, otherwise he might end up in the
Aran Islands!.
There was a discussion on the merits of the soundscape bleeper.
The bleeper gets louder the nearer you get to your destination.
Most people did not like the bleeper as it is very noisy but there is also
some people who find it very useful.
It strikes the minute writer here that NVDA is getting more popular day by
day.
This is a great free screen reader and several good tutourials are available
to help the new user.
