No, you can not just run DCPROMO as if that server was a DC before Exchange
was installed, Exchange is only going to look to it for AD information.

There is information out there on how to "point" Exchange to a different DC.

Subject: [ExchangeList] remove dc role from exchange

Hello everyone,

Just to be cleared! There are 3 server and all 3 are domain controllers.
PDC,MAIL,BDC. PDc is holding the FSMO rule. If I want to demote exchange box
a domain master, all I need to do is running dcpromo ,right?

Exchange 2003 running on server 2003.

Appreciated :-)
