I was having a similar problems and I called my Antivirus vendor,
Symantec, and they issued me a new build for my virus software.
Apparently I was out of date so when I installed the new version,
everything worked peachy!

Subject: [exchangelist] Transaction Logs not automatically deleted when
performing full backup

Let me give you first the background of our system:

- 1 Exchange 2000 Server installed in Windows 2000

- PIII 1GHz dual processor

- 1GB Memory

- 3 Storage Groups

- 2 SCSI disks divided into 3 partitions

o Drive C - System, 10 GB (mirrored)

o Drive E - Where *.edb and *.stm are located (25 GB)

o Drive F - Where the transaction logs are located (25 GB)

- 3 storage groups

- 3 information stores in every storage group

- Drive E with 6 GB free space

- Drive f with 8 GB free space

- More or less 300 users with email

- About 100 Distribution groups

My questions are:

1. Some users are experiencing slow connection when accessing their
mailbox (they're getting requesting data ...). Before, the free space
of drive E was 1 GB but when I defragmented the information stores the
free space became 6 GB, but the connection is still slow although it's
now faster compared when I haven't run defragmentation. I noticed when
I checked Windows task manager that STORE.EXE is actually eating up 800
MB of memory. Can this be the cause of the problem? Are there any ways
to optimize the memory? What else can I do to solve the problem in slow
2. I've read in some articles that full backup will automatically
delete old transaction logs. I've scheduled an online full backup of
all the information stores. I noticed that old transaction logs of 2
out of the 3 storage groups are not deleted automatically. As a
temporary remedy, I dismount the affected information stores and
manually delete the logs. But this arrangement is impractical and waste
a lot of my time. How can I solve this problem?

Thank you!
