If u want remove the old server then u have to keep the old server connect till u finish from all steps.

For DNS, crate it in new server. it is not matter to create before moving or after.
For IIS,
If u have not web site other that OWA, no need to do any thing. just install the required iis components. For AD, do the following :
1- Install additional AD in the new server
2- install exchange and start moving proses for exchange data
3- assign the new server to be Global catalog and then after while remove the GC from old server
4 change recipient update and offline address from system manager to the new server. (may u will get some errors in outlook for bit days,, ignore it in the begging)
5- remove old exchange
6- demotion AD from old server.
7- disconnect old one.

Do I have to reconfigure AD, DNS, IIS on this new server, Do I have to change the name...because I am going to Decommission the old server. As you must have noticed that my old server was running all those services. Once I get everything up and running with new server I can install that old server with one of the service from scrach. Hope I have given you the clear picture....

Thanks for you response.

Sunny

if u want to move the exchange data in same domain (windows domain), it is better to add the new server to your domain as member server then install exchange on it as 2nd exchange server.
Then start moving mailbox normally by exchange task.
for public folder use "Public folder replication"
then make sure for the recipient update and offline address list in system manager are assign to the new server (server3)
after this u can uninstall the old exchange.
Thanks

Hi All,

I have an interesting situation as following.

Currently we have 2 windows 2000 server, one is running DNS, AD, IIS the same is running exchange 2000. Another server is running as Backup Domain controller to have AD copy. Now, my company have bought new server and we need to move the old exchange 2000 to new one. How can I perfume the task. I have read MS article 297289, (How to move exchange 2000 to new hardware and keep the same server name).

Also I have tried Disaster Recovery process as following but no luck.

Backup the old server using veritas Backup exec 9

Install New 2000 Server on new machine on a separate LAN (On a new hub only this machine)

Install Veritas Backup exec 9 and restore system state that will give me AD back on my new machine

Run exchange 2000 with /disaster recovery switch

Exchange gives me error ( I forget the error message)

If anyone has done this can you please guide me. Thanks to all of you in advance

Sunny
