When we do an nslookup from our exchange server we do get a response
but, it attaches our domain to it, example:

ENTER:
nslookup staff.abanet.org

RETURNS:
Name: staff.abanet.org.our-domain.com
Address: 64.94.110.11

Now, if I do this same check from a machine outside of the LAN. I get a
domain cannot be found.

So, if we send an email to emailaddress@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx from here, no
go. If we send the same email from Hotmail then we have no problems.

You don't need RPC for DNS look up and name resolution. Are you able to
do a nslookup and lookup for the failing domain name MX records ?

I am having a problem where email to certain domains is failing with the
error "Domain does not exist". Now, we are able to send this mail from
an outside source, i.e. hotmail, with no problem. In my firewall, there
is an error about packets getting dropped that coincide with the email
errors. The Firewall is reporting "Packets dropped: RPC Mapper". So,
what's the deal? Do I need to have Port 135 open through my firewall
for the RPC? Any ideas?
