Can you ping the SmartHost by its FQDN, can you ping it using its IP
address?
How have you entered the SmartHost name in the box, FQDN or IP address?

actually my internal exchange server is just forwarding mails to the mail
server that is hosting our domain, it is configured to send emails to a
smart host.

what happened is it does not leave the queue, i cant telnet port 25 of the
smart host.

also it said something like this when i chosed the option try DNS first b4
smart host:
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

  Subject: test po ito 2
  Sent: 9/4/2003 1:03 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

  ryukenjoven@xxxxxxxxx on 9/4/2003 7:10 PM
The destination server for this recipient could not be found in Domain
Name Service (DNS). Please verify the email address and retry. If that
fails, contact your administrator.
