Tell the users that there is a maximum mailbox size of 600Mb. To allow them to continue using the system and have full speed access, it would be recommended that their mailboxes be kept to 250Mb or less. You could explain this away by using some highly technical jargon (or bullsh*t). Do you have access to a random word generator - it usually helps. String 3 or 4 words together, that should do the trick! The concern is more their's than yours. If they have a big enough server with sufficient storage capability, the only issue that they will see is speed issues when they are opening their own mailboxes. Limit then using the honesty system rather than forced rules, they may come to respect e-mail more if they have to do their own cleanups! I like having the mailboxes served from the server. But we use VPN and Terminal Services quite a bit so taking users' mailboxes off the server would be highly impractical. Well. even more than that - it's simply something we can't do. The main thing I'm trying to find out is are there any practical concerns with mailboxes that are 500+ MB in size? Thanks. -Chris -----Original Message----- From: swami [mailto:swami@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, May 29, 2003 2:43 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Mailbox Size http://www.MSExchange.org/ Hi Chris, In all mail client, create a service "Personal Folder" and in properties specify the desired local path / network path where you want to keep your ".pst" files. Configure such that, mails are delivered to the personal folders. This way your mail box size will be small in size and will enhance the peformance. What kind of concerns should I have in regards to Information Store problems, server performance, etc. because of their overly large mailboxes? We have less than 25 Exchange users (all with our mailboxes on the server) and the server is an AMD 1.4GHz with 1GB RAM. Thanks.
