GFI FaxMaker Exchange connector status blank

I have Exchange 2000 running on Windows server 2000 SP3. We have GFI
Faxmaker for Exchange running in split server config.
The Faxmaker Exchange connector seems to "die" and outbound faxes are not
sent to the faxmaker server and inbound faxes not sent to exchange. When I
say that it dies, the service status is blank instead of started. There
are no events recorded in the event log indicating a problem or reason for
the service to stop.
Has anybody had this problem? if so what did you do to correct?
