I believe you do need a preference. Most, if not, all DNS servers have it stored in their tables whether you have one or multiple mail servers. -----Original Message----- From: Alfonso Lopez de Ayala [mailto:alopezdeayala@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, October 03, 2002 1:54 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] DNS MX records -- preference value http://www.MSExchange.org/ Does anyone know if you MUST have the "preference" number in an MX record, or can it be omitted? Is this OK: company.com IN A 111.111.111.111 company.com IN MX company.com or does it HAVE TO be like this: company.com IN A 111.111.111.111 company.com IN MX 10 company.com ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Exchange Newsletters: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/newsletter.asp Exchange FAQ: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ ISA Server Resource Site: http://www.isaserver.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this MSExchange.org Discussion List as: chrisc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send a blank email to $subst('Email.Unsub')
