I recently started using MailMarshal with the integrated McAfee virus scan.
I had to remove groupshield as it wasnt a product tested to work with MM.
I must say MM is very very good. Installed without a reboot and arrived with
very comprehensive default keyword and phrase filters for spam, porn, bad
language and scripts, and the integrated virus scan appears to catch all the
incoming viruses.
One thing I would warn about is the bad language filter. Not on a technical
note but on a staff management level :) almost all of the bad language
blocked emails were personal emails and this severely upset some people (i
work in a medium - small office so i got to hear some ... interesting ...
personal comments when this filter became active). You need to warn people
beforehand that this policy is coming into affect, and I would advise
autodeletion of mails caught for bad language rather than quarantine them so
you can say you are not using the filter to spy on people. Reissuing the IT
policy to staff beforehand is also a good idea.
Another thing you should do if you choose to filter bad language is talk it
through with your office manager, or equivelant. It might seem like it is an
IT issue at first but it is most definately wider than that!
