The errors seem to point to a communications or permission problem. Have you
had a chance to try the tests in the other technet article ?

Some other information that will be useful is :

Are the two exchange servers installed on domain controllers or member
servers ?

Are the servers in the same domain ?

What other patches have been applied to the new server other than the
service pack?

Do you get any event log errors in the existing exchange server at the time
the setup fails ?

Which network protocols do you run ?

Are the server on the same IP Subnet ?

How does name resolution work or your network (lmhosts, hosts, wins, dns,
broadcast)?

Has there ever been an exchange server on the network with this same name ?

What antivirus software do you use and have you tried disabling it while
performing the install?

Things to try:

Ping the ip address of FRODO from mail.

Ping frodo by name from mail

Ping mail from FRODO by ip address

Ping mail by name from frodo.

Then map a drive e.g. C$ on frodo from mail and vice versa.

Install exchnage administrator on the new server and connect to the old
server while logged on as the exchange service account

Check to make sure the exchange service account has full control ntfs
permissions to all drives on both servers where exchange files are located.

In Exchange administrator check that the service account has service account
rights to all levels of the exchange organisation.

Have a look at ( even though the error is different the tests on
communication and name resolution are valid)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q159485

especially try the last test with exchange administrator from the new
server.

Also make sure that you are logged onto the new server as the exchange
service account while your carrying out the installation.

Do you get any error messages in the application log when setup fails, if so
what are they ?

Subject: [exchangelist] Adding a 5.5 Server to an existing Organization
and Site

http://www.MSExchange.org/

Please send any and all suggestions. We are attempting to add an
additional Exchange 5.5 to an existing Exchange 5.5 Organization and Site.
During install we are able to join the existing site and the information
appears to be correct. However during final phase of the install on the
new server we always receive an error that directory replication was not
successfull. Stop and restart Directory Services and try the install
again. Both servers have NT 4.0 SP6a, the existing Exchange 5.5 server
has sp4. Please help.........extremely ignorant and frustrated!! Thanks
so much in advanced!
