Subject: East Valley Astronomy Club - April Meeting & Program

To: Members & Friends of the East Valley Astronomy Club
The East Valley Astronomy Club will conduct our April meeting this Friday
evening - April 19th. The meeting will take place in the usual location -
the Shakespeare room at the Southeast Regional Library in Gilbert, beginning
at 7:30 pm. Our meetings are a terrific opportunity to catch up with
friends, and to make some new ones. Please be deliberate on Friday to find
someone you do not know and introduce yourself. They will appreciate it -
we were all new members once.
This month's speaker is our own Gordon Rosner, a Life Member of EVAC, and
Vice Operations Manager of the GRCO Observatory. Gordon has degrees in
Aeronautical Engineering and Aeronautics and has worked in the aviation and
space industries for almost four decades. Most recently Gordon has been a
Senior Principal Mission Assurance Engineer for Orbital Sciences, a space
launch vehicle design, manufacturing, and launch company.
Gordon's talk will be "Rocketing into Space" a presentation on the history
of space launch vehicles, their different types of propulsion and control
systems, and some of their magnificent successes and epic failures. Gordon
will also offer his perspective on the future of these crucial systems. In
a nod to the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 manned moon landing,
Gordon will also talk about the flight control systems for that mission in
the very early days of computers.
Please make sure to use the north entrance facing Guadalupe Road since the
library will be closed at meeting time.
