As the East Valley Astronomy Club continues efforts to improve member
communications and coordinate activities between meetings, we would like to
announce the new EVAC Facebook page!
Facebook has become a dominant force online for both individuals and groups
to stay connected and up to date, so we want to take full advantage of the
opportunity for the benefit of our members.
EVAC members who already have a Facebook account, can search for "East
Valley Astronomy Club" and it will appear in the search results under
"Groups." Alternatively, you can go directly to the EVAC group with this
link:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/198515270895343/ The Facebook group has
been set up as a 'Private Group'. Anyone on Facebook can find the group and
see who is part of the user group. However only members of the EVAC
Facebook group can see the content, the member posts, and contribute
comments and posts to the group. Membership in the EVAC Facebook group
requires a Facebook user to request access, and the approval of the group
moderator. All EVAC members current with their dues will have their join
request approved.
For EVAC members who would like to take advantage of the new Facebook page
but are not current Facebook users, the first step is fast, free, and easy -
join Facebook. New to Facebook members can go to www.Facebook.com
<http://www.Facebook.com> to create a new account. Once your account is
established, you can follow the same steps as listed above to become part of
the EVAC Facebook group.
Please note that the new EVAC Facebook page is an addition to our current
methods of member communication. The EVAC web site, newsletter, and email
groups will continue to function as they always have. Ken Rowe, the 2018
club Secretary will moderate the Facebook group and approve new group user
requests. While the EVAC Facebook is currently up and running, it will
continue to improve and evolve to meet our needs. If you find a feature is
broken, or if you have a suggestion for improvement please identify that
within the Facebook group for resolution.
The effort to use Facebook to improve communication between members, attract
new members, and allow members to coordinate activities (like observing
sessions) has been the work of several people. Thanks go to Tom Mozdzen,
Ken Rowe, and our EVAC webmaster - Marty Pieczonka for bringing this to
reality. A very special thank you and kudos go to Michael Prator for doing
the actual hard work to build the group, populate the initial content, and
