To the Commissioners of the Tuxedo Joint Fire District:
Like you, we are all volunteers. As such, we appreciate the time and commitment
you give to help make our community a better and safer place to live. We all
give the best effort we can. With that effort comes the responsibility to
constructively speak out when we see something that is unjust.
We are writing to you today because we believe the residents of Eagle Valley
are not being safely and fairly represented by the Tuxedo Joint Fire District.
As you are certainly aware, unless a chief position has been unusually vacated,
there are three fire chiefs in the district at any given time. On many
occasions, the message has been delivered from the Commissioners that one chief
should be from each of the three companies that encompass the District.
In past years, and most recently during the District elections which were held
on December 3, 2020, it has been apparent that the “one chief per company”
guideline was not being upheld. As a result of said elections, two chiefs were
voted in from the Sterling Forest Fire Co and one chief from Company one. As
such, Eagle Valley is left without a Fire Chief despite presenting an
experienced and viable candidate.
It is not our intention to contest the recent election. We will live and abide
by the results. Going forward however, for the benefit of the entire Tuxedo
Joint Fire District, we would like to request that the “one chief per company”
policy be more clearly defined and upheld.
We, the volunteers of Eagle Valley Fire Company would like to request a meeting
with the Commissioners to discuss and agree on a go-forward plan regarding the
aforementioned topic on a mutually agreeable date/location not to exceed 45
days from today. Please coordinate and arrange this meeting via our two
Commisioners, Peter Dedel and Paul Eichengreen.
