[etni] telling the time - "o'clock"?

While I am aware of that "o'clock" is alive and well in British spoken English,
I have the feeling that it is becoming a thing of the past in written English.
Can anyone confirm this or is this just a figment of my imagination? I find
myself encouraging my pupils to avoid using "o'clock" and to either write the
time with am/pm or simply use the 24 hour clock. Is this a "global English"
change or a British V US English thing?

I'd be grateful for your input.

Best wishes,

Judi G.
