i have been doing SSR with all my classes since the beginning of the year (some classes more successfully than others). about every month and a half we have a book party (they bring soda and cake) and have oral book reviews. so far we';ve had: telling about the plot, choosing to describe a character, a lesson you learned from the story and how, bringing a song(lyrics and music) that is connected to a topic in your story. the next one is the setting and i hope to do food this year too - choose, bring in, recipe, eat, talk how it's connected. this all takes a lot of time obviously, but i see the kids reading, and they are talking in front of the class too and having fun as well. much better than book reports, i think. sandy -- 'Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain."
