About 'the castle opened' - this is an example of an 'ergative' verb (look
it up on Google)
Verbs which can relate to the object or the person who acts on the object.
So you can say 'I broke the window' or 'the window broke'
'He boiled some water' or 'the water boiled'
Similarly, 'We opened the shop' or 'The shop opens at 9'. Or the castle.
