Hello After many years experience teaching all levels and ages, especially native speakers, IMHO it is always a bad idea to give native speakers local books but for a higher grade, for several reasons: 1. Many times the books intended for older grades, have content and vocabulary unsuitable for younger ages. 2. Books designed for local older grades include grammar sections that baffle and confuse native speakers. 3. Many books produced for local school use, often require some guidance from an adult so the pupils self navigating can become 'boring'. 4. try to encourage Native speakers to use books that are produced in English speaking countries for their age/level. Such books can be purchased from UPP or WizKids in Raanana, or specialise books stores or via Amazon etc. Examples are books by Scholastic, Heinman, Letts, MacMillan to name but a few. 5. Alternatively, encourage the child to read an age appropriate classic then get them to write about it; changing styles and tenses of writing. Ie a book report, a letter to a friend saying why they should read the book, a re-writing of the story/ending in a different time period, a dialogue about an event that happened in the story, choice words from the book for them to learn for learning test etc 6. Native Speakers should also have their work checked like all other pupils, they still make mistakes.
