Dear English teachers!!

Yesterday I was informed that our 11th grade students who took the new
modular Bagrut are having their "magen" dropped from 50% to 10% as there is
a gap of 25 points ( of the average) between their "magen" and their grade
on module G. I am very upset as the magen that they got was what they
deserved as they were excellent students and earned what they got. As most
English teachers who had students take the exam know, it was a terrible exam
The school is appealing this decision but in the meantime I would like to
hear from other teachers who may be in the same boat.

Since this was the first test and the first time we had to give a different
magen" for each test I feel that there may have been misunderstanding of how
to give the "magen' for each module. I for one understood that anyway in the
end the 3 modules counted as 1 test and that the "magen" turned into 1 grade
also. However according to the Ministry of Education this is not the case.
In my opinion it's confusing and unfair. In this case I'm appealing both as
the student's teacher and as the coordinator of the English dept. The other
problem is that we only have one week to inform the students so they can
decide to retest in winter. (our entire 12th grade class must take the
winter bagrut - a school decision to save money!!!)

I would really like to hear from other teachers. Thanks Aviva S.
