Was Livnat there? Was any single MK there? Was Ronit Tirosh there, or any other MoE key player? Noooooooooo? Then - what's the point? 10 thousand teachers talking to each other? Have you learned something new that you hadn't known? What have you guys achieved? [shaking his head in disbelief] One doesn't need a PhD in computer science in order to figure out that firing 1/3 of the teachers will only make classes 30% larger. It is equally obvious that a school cannot physically provide working space for 100% of its teachers being there 8 to 4 - the whole system could only work based on 6-day rotation. So the whole point of the proposed "reform" is not to improve the inadequate Israeli education - it's about making the system run on lower $$ voltage. The only way of handling this Ministry-blessed insanity is by civil disobedience. Whether or not the unions are going to take part in it, we have to find a way of making it work. Maybe by taking over schools till they send the police to smoke us out. Maybe by mass absenteeism ( I can even think of a few diseases that can cause epidemics - why not? Report sick on Sept 1!). Anything will do. Except mass rallies and petition-writing.
