I'm pro-HOTS in general, because I think that many students leave school without the ability to think deeply about much of what they learn. I was certified 6 years ago in California, where HOTS was a big part of the curriculum for teachers, as well as part of the state's benchmarks for students. All the textbooks were chock-full of HOTSy activities. It's great that Israel is catching up. But why in English??? As far as I know, HOTS is not part of the curriculum in Hebrew subjects (please correct me if I'm wrong). It makes NO pedagogical sense to introduce these skills in a student's L2!!! It seems to me that if the English Inspectorate considers HOTS to be important, which they are, it should petition the Ministry of Education to introduce HOTS into the general Hebrew curriculum first. Once it's been established, the students will easily be able to transfer their HOTS skills to L2. This, in my opinion, would make everyone's lives much easier. Any thoughts??
