Hi everybody, I'd like to voice my frustration here. A pupil at a very large, well-known school in Jerusalem had her Oral exam yesterday. She was word perfect in everything her teacher had told her to prepare, but got a grade of 80 from the external tester, who asked her different questions, and didn't want the 2 minute monologue about the project. Ok, i can understand that..tester doesn't want to hear pre-rehearsed stuff etc; Fair enough. Her teacher had told the class that she would give the Tziun Beit Sifri for the oral exam based on the written preparation they showed her for the oral. She didn't once hear them talk. In the end, she told the class she would give her grade AFTER the exam, which she did. This pupil got the same grade of 80 from her teacher. This infuriates me. Not only did the teacher not hear them talk, but she also gave a grade well below the grade the pupil deserved for all her preparation and effort. When another pupil challenged his grade (which they have a right to do with the Tziun Beit Sifri) yesterday, the teacher said they had already sent the grades in to the Ministry. Since all the classes were not tested yesterday, i don't believe this. This same school makes all the pupils (except Mabar) finish their English studies in the 11th grade, which I find ridiculous. The Mabar get an extra half year, and have to finish in the winter of 12th grade. At the moment, however, the 11th grade Mabar class has stopped studying English ( since March) and are studying Tanach. The Ometz class in 10th grade ( the weakest class) has no English lessons because their teacher was fired mid-year and they weren't given a replacement, yet they, too, are supposed to finish the Bagrut next year. Do you know if schools are allowed to take these liberties, and if there is anyone in the Ministry who can control this?? Would also be happy to hear your reactions...
