I wrote a letter to Chedvah Tzedef who runs the Irgun's e-mail forum. My letter
appears on the Irgun's site. In the letter, I explained that our students have
not prepared projects in accordance with the Irgun's sanctions. Our examiner, a
Histadrut member, informed me that she will have no choice but to fail our
students on that part of the exam. I asked Chedvah for some guidance. She
showed my letter to Ran Erez. I asked them: Should we a) ignore the sanctions
and prepare the projects? b) tell the students to prepare the projects without
our assistance? (an option that is discriminatory towards the weaker students
who cannot manage on their own) c) request that the examiners register the same
mark that the students get on the interview section for the project? (Our
examiner refuses to do this on ethical grounds.) d) the Irgun's solution.
Nurit Valenci did not circle any of the above answers. Instead, she wrote me
that the examiner has no right to punish the students. She requested that I
write the CEO of the Ministry of Education, which I did promptly. She added
that Dr. Shoshani is sympathetic to the Irgun's position on projects.
Colleagues have told me that I am naive to believe that he will reply to my
letter.
In my letter, I described our dilemma. I explained that as a teacher, I cannot
let all of our students fail. As a Union member, I do not want to ignore the
sanctions.
I'm waiting for his reply. My ongoing saga can be followed on the Irgun site.
Just press forum and scroll down until you see my name or the subject at hand.
