I agree with you. We English teachers are certainly gluttons for punishment. The Ministry is totally cut off from what is going on. Most four point students cannot deal with original texts. It is easier to simplify the whole matter. Make only 'F' a literature module composed of one unseen containing questions of a literary type (HOTS etc) which in order to succeed the student must have studied some literary forms in class. Why make matters so complicated with logs etc? Which teacher in their right minds wants more of a work load? Our bags are heavy enough with papers, exams modules, books etc. The log will just become another pressure point for parents to ensure that their child gets a suitable grade. Rise up you English teachers! Stand up for your rights! Why do we have to swallow all the medicine that the Ministry and the Book Publishers wish to push down our throats? The Ministry should be dealing with the real problems of the growing numbers of teenagers who cannot read and write in English and should be concerned with improving the classroom environment, salary etc. so that maybe people will be attracted into the profession. The way things stand at the present, just the opposite process is happening. There are much more lucrative and less stressful ways of making a living for English speakers. Most English teachers are idealistic, hardworking and they are just being trodden on from above. Enough is enough! It is time to unite together and for once be selfish and make sure that the teachers' needs are taken into account! From another anonymous and I am sure that there are many more out there who hold similar views. ----------------------------------------------- Call for Articles The Etni Rag needs you ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org or - http://www.etni.org.il ** ** for help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** ** to post to this list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** -----------------------------------------------
