Hello! We were told last week that the new "chozer mankal" states that no
teachers are eligible for "gmul pitzul" unless they teach an entire class
and not just a group (hakbatza.) Has anyone heard about this at your school?
(For those uninitiated, we Eng. teachers who teach 4 or 5 different
grades/classes have been eligible for this gmul for many years.) As we are
all rolling in money with our huge salaries :) this added 250 or so Shekels
was nice, to say the least.
This is magic better than David Copperfield-- now you see it; now you
don't!!!! Why need we work like slaves and fight for every penny when we do
so much?
As an added thought:
I highly recommend that over the Succot vacation you all go to BBC.com and
look for the program "Top of the Class." I heard the first superb program
today by chance. It is a series trying to find out why some countries
(Finland for example, where children start school late, at age 7 in August
and 90% of them know how to read by December) always come out on top
internationally on test scores while others are really in bad shape. (ho,
hum; where are we? Anyone want to guess?) An interesting point made on the
program was that in Finland the creme de la creme of young h.s. graduates
want to go into teaching and there are 30 candidates for every GOOD position
available. The salary is comparable with that of the USA and teaching is
looked upon as a highly respected and valued profession. **sigh**
Anyone know if Berlitz gives lessons in Finnish? (or whatever the Finns
speak.)
