Teaching Early Literacy to Language Learners (TELL)

Do you feel frustrated when not all your pupils can read as well as
you'd like? Are you surprised by the difficulties that some of your
pupils exhibit when they are asked to read and write? You are
probably not alone. The challenge of teaching reading and writing in
a heterogeneous classroom are often daunting, but for those who
succeed the satisfaction is tremendous. If you want to ensure that
ALL your pupils are reading and writing by the end of elementary
school the course Teaching early literacy to language learners is for
you. You will learn the principles of alphabetics, fluency and
comprehension necessary for literacy and gain hands-on experience as
you implement the tools and techniques that are offered. By the end
of the course you will have the knowledge, strategies and confidence
to implement a systematic reading and writing program in the
heterogeneous elementary classroom. You will also be awarded 28 hours
towards a gmul.

For details where you can take this course, please look at the list
of in-service courses linked from the front page of anglit.net
