IN-SERVICE TRAINING COURSE: 

HIGHER-ORDER THINKING SKILLS (HOTS) FOR EFFECTIVE LANGUAGE LEARNING

LECTURER:  DR. HELEN OSIMO

PLACE: 'PISGA', HAIFA (Derech Hayam)

OPENING:  30th March 2015; 30 hours over 8 meetings

 

COURSE CONTENT:

Language is better learned and retained when structures, lexis and texts
undergo deep processing.  Deep processing includes a number of higher-order
thinking skills (HOTS), such as deducing rules and meaning, classifying,
finding patterns, synthesizing, applying information, and more.  This course
will look at the various ways teachers can apply HOTS to all domains of
language-learning to foster improved understanding, memorization and
retention of language items. For each unit there will also be critical
evaluation of course books and internet material in an attempt to enhance
what is available, so that learning becomes more meaningful, interesting and
effective.  The course is suitable for teachers of Junior High and High
School.
