Hear Ye, Hear Ye! ð£
Announcing the opening of our KIDS READ season! That means we are ready to
receive your students' best entries of a creative piece of writing or
artwork in response to, or inspired by, literature in English they have
read. Guidelines for submissions are below.
What is *KIDS READ* you might ask? Good Question! *KIDS READ *is a
magazine JELLY publishes annually showcasing writing in English of students
from all over Israel. This is a juried competition however, and all pieces
are chosen as worthy of our publication by our eagle-eyed Editorial
Committee. *KIDS READ* is an exciting opportunity for your students to see
their work published, and only few things can compare to the thrill of
seeing one's work printed for the first time...and second time...and third
time. Students really feel acknowledged and validated as a writer!
We accept entries from students in *grade 3-9,* and this year we are
opening it up to *grades 10-12 as well. * Each teacher can send *up to 5
entries *chosen from student work this year. Of course, you want to choose
the *best *and *most creative* pieces. Entries must be *typed, sent by
email,* and be *no more than a page*. *Artwork* should be in *black and
white. More details are included below.*
We can tell you what we DON'T WANT to receive: the standard book report. We
can make suggestions about what we *DO WANT* to receive: *creative
responses to literature including, but not limited to, diary/journal
entries, prequels, alternative endings, newspaper articles, alternative
covers, cartoons with captions, character interviews, poems, board games,
just to name a few...*
*DEADLINE FOR ENTRY SUBMISSIONS: April 15.*

*1) Student's name*
*2) Student's grade*
*3) Student's email (if they have one)*
*4) Teacher's name*
*5) School*
*6) Parent's names and email address (to invite them to our presentation
event, and in case we have to mail or deliver copies to our writers'
families, as we did last year)*
*7) Of course, the book or poem being responded to...and if the material
was sourced on the internet, please include the web address. *
