Curriculum Organiser LogoNEWSLETTER June 2006 -- Please forward this newsletter onto your school's teachers for tips, support, training opportunities, and the latest developments with Curriculum Organiser -- Welcome to our new schools. It's been another busy term for us at Education Research Solutions, and for you in schools we understand, as new reporting standards are deployed. We are working towards having a fully integrated link to reporting from your current planning documents in the Curriculum Organiser. More news on this as it unfolds later in the year. ERS Curriculum Improvement Program: No more e-mail attachments or shared-drive "jungles" Curriculum improvement is a dynamic process requiring steady and ongoing input - a little done by many is far better than a lot done by few! To facilitate this, Curriculum Organiser provides the Central Document Set (CDS) mechanism to distribute documents, thereby maximising the efforts of individuals who contribute to the whole school team. If you have not yet set up a CDS, please contact us for setup instructions. This term, ERS will be sending out (for free, and by return e-mail) a series of PDF Behaviour Management resources by David Koutsoukis, a leading specialist in the field. If you have received a Curriculum Organiser update since November last year, you will now be able to import these PDF documents into your CDS. To add these documents to the CDS, the CDS Administrator (typically the Curriculum Manager) should follow the typical CDS importing steps: 1. Open the CDS (File > Central Document Set > Open Central Document Set) 2. Make a new folder in the School Policy (right click > select Create Folder) 3. Enter the name "Behaviour Management Ideas" 4. Import the resources from where you saved them from the e-mail attachment (right click > select Import, and for 'File of type' select PDF) 5. Close CDS (File > Personal Document Set > Open) 6. Advise staff to click on their c-import button when next connected to the network to receive filed copies of the resources Master these few steps and you will soon see the time-saving power of the CDS for Curriculum Improvement. As a simple rule of thumb, "If something is for the whole staff and related to curriculum, file it into the CDS." ERS Support: Need help? Our contact information is always at hand in Curriculum Organiser. On the menu bar, select About > About Curriculum Organiser > click on the email link and tell us what the problem or suggestion is. We guarantee to reply to your e-mail promptly. If it's urgent use the phone number there to call our support line during business hours. For very urgent support, call Ian Thompson on 0421 635 409. Please leave a message if not answered, as it probably means he is presenting at a school. We want to hear from you. No issue is too small when it's holding you up from teaching time. In-school Support: No time to meet! No need, with Curriculum Organiser documents in MS Word. By now you know that opening a document in the Curriculum Organiser automatically opens it in MS Word for you. So what happens when you make some changes and want to have others check, review or add to it, but can't seem to get the time to meet? The answer is to use the MS Word "Send to" and Tracking functions. You've probably attached documents to emails and sent them to people; this is much the same, but has some nice time-saving features. 1. Open a new or existing document in Curriculum Organiser 2. In MS Word, turn on the Tracking feature using one of these means: * On the status bar (at the bottom of the Word window), double-click the TRK indicator section/box to enable it (note: it is grey until enabled). This TRK indicator is handy because you can tell at a glance if Tracking it is on or off. * On the menu bar, select Tools > Track Changes (or from the keyboard, use shortcut Ctrl + Shift + E). Note: This will also display the Reviewing toolbar: 3. To email to the next person for reviewing (after you have made all your changes), go to File > Send To > Mail Recipient (if only one person) OR Routing Recipient (for more than one recipient). 4. Follow the prompts to e-mail people who need to review or contribute to the final document. 5. When all the edits have been made, on the Reviewing toolbar (displayed above) select 'Final' from the drop-down (left of the 'Show' Button). All the edits disappear and it's ready to publish. ERS Curriculum Improvement Service Packs NEW! We understand how difficult it is to organise PD, get technical support and contract services. ERS is now offering schools Service Packs which entitle schools to buy time in lots of 10 hourly blocks for professional development, curriculum improvement and accountability, customisation of documents, technical support, etc, to use throughout the year. Simply purchase a block of time and use it as needed. You receive a big discount for advance purchase of time and can budget for your curriculum program for the year. As an introductory 2006 offer, ERS are providing a Semester 2 Service Pack of 5 hours for only $500 (if purchased before the start of term 3) - a saving of 25% on normal rates! Please note, for regional areas, travel, accommodation and meal costs will vary depending on location, and are not included in Service Pack pricing. However, these costs may be shared between schools which are close in proximity. Host a PD These will start in several areas during third term and we are always looking for more host schools. You will need to provide a space and basic coffee/tea making facilities. We will invite local CO schools and other interested delegates to drop in for an informal sharing of ideas, resources and experience. It's an optional, low-key way to clear up small issues and pick up some time-saving ideas. If we haven't contacted you, and you see value for your staff then please contact Ian Thompson to arrange a date. Executive Briefings ERS are happy to present policy and directional sessions to regional meetings of teachers and administrators on curriculum topics of interest. Outcomes Based Education, Curriculum Accountability, ICT Integration, Performance Management, Reporting, Team Building are to name a few. Please contact Robin Clarke or Ian Thompson to discuss your needs and how ERS can help. RASCAL Conference ERS are happy to recommend the 2006 Student Centred Learning RASCAL conference Inspiration - Aspiration to our members. Please mark it down in your calendars for Friday 18th and Saturday 19th August. Special Guests: Roslyn Shepherd, Maggie Dent and Merv Hammond. There are also many informative and relevant concurrent sessions. Great value!
