Hi Jim
No- the only options are Yellow or Wilson's. Prothonotary has gray wings
and a white vent. This bird has yellow underparts and wings (with dark wing
edges. Wilson's would have a more compact look, maybe more yellow in the
eye-brow area and a longer tail. I think it's definitely a Yellow Warbler
and who knows
why it decided to stay.
Simon
PS; I see it's at another house. Is that near you? I would like to come and
see it if possible,

What is this mystery Warbler I photographed in Black Mountain t his
afternoon? The owner of the house, Lynn Chandler, first thought it was a
Prothonotary; others suggested Yellow, Orange-crowned, or Pine. The yellow
vent rules out a Pine Warbler. Yellow seems unlikely. It seems too bright
lemon color for an Orange-crowned. Is a Wilson’s a possibility? What am I
missing something. Jim Poling
