Friends,
Northern Haywood County, particularly Brown Gap off Cold Springs Road, offered
up some good warblers this past weekend (Chestnut-sided photo taken previous
weekend). It seemed there was less actively below 3000' but above 4500'
activity increased. In addition to the warblers, I'm adding a wildflower that
I was not familiar with, Leather Flower (Clematis viorna), first time I had
seen this one. The bee was enjoying it also. Six warblers included:
#1. Chestnut-sided Warbler, up close and personal, Max Patch Road, 7/8/17.#2.
Hooded Warbler, Brown Gap, on Forest Service Rd. off Cold Springs Rd, at least
two seen, 7/16/17.#3. Black-and-white Warbler, Brown Gap, 6 or 7 grouped
together, 7/16/17.#4. Black-throated Green, Brown Gap, 7/16/17.#5.
Black-throated Blue, Brown Gap, male and female observed, 7/16/17
#6. Leather Flower, according to the literature what appears to be the petals
are actually sepals, Max Patch Road, 7/8/17.
A Canada Warbler was also seen, but it would not emerge from the rhododendron
for a photo.
