It was a cold but a beautiful, sunny morning for the regular bird walk at
the Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuaryk. Sixteen enthusiastic birders came. My
thanks to several good hearing birders who were a great help to this
hearing challenged birder - even though I wore my “ears” this morning. The
final list was 31 species, several added by those who stayed for a walk by
the lake. Some highlights - A singing Pine Warbler at the top of a -
surprise - pine tree in the Sanctuary. Unfortunately not everyone saw it
as it was very high and insisted on moving constantly. Birds! A pair of
Killdeer were on the golf course across Merrimon Avenue. Among our 4
woodpeckers, we had great views of a Pileated Woodpecker and a pair of
Northern Flickers - in both the Sanctuary and along the lake. Most folks
had a good view of a Swamp Sparrow. A fun morning.
