That is excellent Jim! Thank you for the update! I look forward to seeing if
shrikes use the nest balls. And how the monitoring goes with the App. Do you
think TPWD folks would be willing to have it 'tested' further afield by
Working Group members?

Subject: [eloshwg] Round Rock, TX nesting season update
Our nesting season started in early-March with pairing and nest building.
Today we had our first 2 nests of 12 hatch.
Our friends at Texas Parks and Wildlife trained our first volunteers (Master
Naturalists) to use an app to facilitate nest monitoring. Craig and Tania
also were able to spend some time in the (hot) afternoon to color band our
first bird.
Finally, I was able to place a few barbed-wire nest balls in tree adjacent
to the two nests that were predated, to offer some protective options for
new nest building. We’ll see if we can entice any of our pairs to choose
one of the bowls I made with another bowl on top.
