Scientist (learner modeling, adaptive learning technologies, agent-based
dialog systems)

Alelo develops interactive computer-based products for learning foreign
languages and intercultural skills. Our mission is to help people overcome
communication barriers due to language and cultural differences. Learners
practice their communicative skills in simulated conversations with animated
characters, using spoken language and patented multimodal communication
technologies. Courses are delivered as multi-player games, via the Web, and

As a *scientist*, you will provide leadership in the design, implementation,
and testing of new techniques and methods that can provide new capabilities
for Alelo’s immersive learning environments. You will collaborate with other
researchers in the development of new research concepts and proposals,
collaborate with production and user support teams to understand user needs
and develop solutions that meet those needs. You will also guide and mentor
junior staff members, as well as collaborate with other team members on

*You must be a person who*:

   - Has graduate research experience in *intelligent tutoring
systems*, *natural
   language processing*, *user modeling* and *user-adapted interaction*, or
   a related field
   - Has a Ph.D. or equivalent experience
   - Has competence in computer programming
   - Is clearly organized, detail-oriented, and professional
   - Can lead and work with interdisciplinary teams
   - Has good communication and presentation skills
   - Enjoys getting things done and making a difference as a part of a
   learning system that is in widespread international use


*You should be a person who*:

   -  Is comfortable with *knowledge engineering*, *expert systems
   development*, and/or *logic programming languages*
