Dear Friends and Neighbours
Whilst on holiday on the island of Grenada in January I became aware of a man
called Marshmallow who lost the lower part of his left leg last year due to an
accident and subsequent gangrene. There is no free Health Service on the
island so there is no chance of Marsh getting a prosthetic leg. I consulted
one of our neighbours, Ann at number 37 Everton Road about the possibilities of
getting a second hand prosthetic leg or some other reasonable solution – she
came up with a list of local charities and through this we have found “Attach a
leg Grenada”, who will measure, make and fit a prosthetic leg for EC$1,600
(about £550).
I have undertaken to raise this, so I am writing to members of ECCO asking for
contributions – cash or cheque made payable to S Woolgrove – just drop it round
to me at 62 Everton Road where I can show you pictures of Marsh – he lives in a
10ft by 14ft wooden shack with no electricity or running water. Having this
leg will mean that he will again be able to work and support himself.
