Subject: [ssonhs-organize] Proposed Closure of Hallamshire Hospital Minor
Injuries Unit
To: SSONHS <ssonhs-organize@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is undertaking a review of 'urgent
care' in the city. This is treatment for minor injuries and illnesses which are
urgent but not life threatening and which should be seen by a clinician within
24 hours.They are proposing:
Closure of the Minor Injuries Unit at the Hallamshire Hospital leaving minor
injuries to be dealt with only at the Northern General Hospital.Closure of the
Walk-In Centre on Broad Lane with alternative Urgent Care Centres developed in
other locations throughout the city.Urgent Eye Care moved from the Eye Clinic
at the Hallamshire Hospital probably to opticians in different parts of the
city. Emergency Eye Care to remain at the Hallamshire Hospital.
Sheffield Save Our NHS is developing a case for rejecting these proposals
particularly as we have no details about the Urgent Care Centres or Urgent Eye
Care and remain concerned about the creep of privatisation of eye care. However
we have decided to oppose the closure of the Minor Injuries Unit. There is a
petition (attached).SSONHS will be gathering signatures, distributing leaflets
and talking with people every Saturday at 12.00 noon from now until 16th
December 2017 at the following locations:
11th November outside the Town Hall18th November by NatWest bank, Hunters
Bar25th November at Morrisons, Broomhill2nd December in Heeley (venues to be
confirmed). This is in collaboration with Heeley Labour Party9th December
outside the Town Hall16th December at Hunters Bar
We will have a table, leaflets and petitions. Please join us!
There are also CCG consultation meetings:Thursday 23rd November 6-8pm at 'the
Circle', 33, Rockingham Lane S1 4FWWednesday 6th December 1.30-3.30pm, Carers
Centre, Sheffield City Centre. The consultation ends on 18th December.
Remember we successfully fought this campaign to save the Minor Injuries Unit
some years ago.
