WARNING: We were attacked by a new scam down here in Ipswich - Someone 'phoned 
claiming to be from BT Openreach and told us that there was a fault on our 
telephone line and that we would lose our internet connection within 48 hours 
if no action was taken - which required us to install an app which would enable 
them to remotely take over our device - a 'Remote Viewer'. They were rather 
convincing, apart from the poor foreign accent - but then many call centres are 
abroad these days. (I would normally put the phone down straight away with such 
calls, but this time I played them along to see how the scam would play out.)
DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE YOU DO NOT KNOW PERSONALLY AND TRUST TO REMOTELY ACCESS 
YOUR DEVICE.

Advice For A Safe Online Christmas



Dear resident,

Having a safe online Christmas is about more than just shopping: it’s how you 
set up and use those new connected devices, make sure the young people in your 
life are going online safely and responsibly and remain vigilant when there’s 
so much going on around you, including keeping yourself and the family 
protected from the virus.
 
This year, it may also be more difficult to physically get together with loved 
ones and friends, so you’ll also need to take care when connecting with them 
online.
