2 In 1 Burglaries

Good afternoon residents
There have been several reports of 2 in 1 burglaries within the Fulwood
area of Sheffield. This is when offenders break into properties to steal
your vehicle.
Criminals are always looking out for easy targets. The effective way to
deter criminals is to practice good, common sense crime prevention habits.
• Ensure all windows and doors are locked, even if you are only in the
garden, or popping to the shop.
A large proportion of burglaries are what we class as “sneak-ins” where
an intruder slips in through an
insecure door or window.
• Make sure alley/garden gates allowing access to the rear are closed
and locked where possible.
• Keep house keys, car keys and handbags out of reach of letter
boxes/cat flaps and ideally out of
sight of any ground floor windows. Offenders will use fishing rods or
garden canes to access car and
house keys.
• Keep items such as laptops, mobile phones, digital cameras and
iPads/tablets out of sight of ground
floor windows while you are out or asleep.
• Use your burglar alarm when you are out, in bed or away. Speak to your
neighbours and ask them to
call the police should the alarm sound.
• Lock away ladders, tools, and other garden items that burglars could
use to enter your home, make
sure wheelie bins and other garden items are stored away from second
floor windows.
• Use timer switches on lights to make your home appear occupied while
you are away.
• Check that your door locks are Anti-snap locks. TS007 is the national
recognised standard.
