I'll do my best to answer. 1) Changing a file extension will not change the content within a file. The content in this case is Rich Text Format. RTF is a very old format, now being replaced with formats such as XML which indeed will be the default for the next generation of MS Office. 2) The Duxbury Braille Translator (DBT) does import Word files, and over the years, many improvements have been made. The main secret is in the judicious use of Word's Styles. DBT's Word Importer for example, will match Word print Styles to it Braille Styles. Tables are a hairy issue, and in our experience need a careful examination prior to importing. 3) You might like to write to be off list about this question, since much will depend on what you wish to achieve. Drop me a line to george@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or george@xxxxxxxxxxx 4) DBT is for Windows only. There is only one major version, currently version 10.5, although a new release is coming soon. There is a cut down version produced, but purely for sign writers. 5 & 6) We really need a little more information regarding what you wish to achieve. Again, perhaps you would like to write to me off list. George Bell. ________________________________ From: duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ganesh D. Will changing RTF file extension to ".doc" will work? For example, what happens when I rename "File1.rtf" to "File2.doc" without opening in MS Word and send it to Duxbury printer? Do you have any idea about what are the reasons behind not supporting RTF format? 2. Does it recognize complete object model of MS Word? Or are there any limitations regarding some objects or versions? For example, Reports having tables won't be printed properly etc. 3. How can a .NET application (or any application) directly handshake with Duxbury translation software? Do they provide any APIs or it's a pure offline process? 4. Which are different versions of Duxbury translation software available? 5. Are there any software design guidelines or any material available with you? Please send me those.\ 6. Are there any consultants available whom I can talk and discuss these in more details? If yes please give me their details. Thanks and Regards, Ganesh Gajakosh ________________________________ From: duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of George Bell Sent: Thursday, June 29, 2006 1:31 PM To: duxuser@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [duxuser] Re: statsduxuser No. With RTF documents, you will need to convert them to a .doc (Word) format, or ..txt. You can do this in Word, or if you do not have Word, then you can save to .txt with WordPad.
