Jane, You could experiment with using the JAWS dictionary manager but this might be difficult to control as JAWS could, for example, announce "space" for every blank space in the document which you don't want. Actually, I find that I can generally hear the missing spaces as JAWS will pronounce the words in question differently, usually with the emphasis on the wrong syllable. Learning to pick up on these will be a much more useful skill in the long-run in my experience. When going through a Word Document, letter by letter with JAWS for checking your work, how do you have it state that there is a space...rather than having to hit the space key and figure it out that way? I'm not sure I'm asking the question properly. I want Jaws to speak the word "space" so my student knows if words are running together or not. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
