[duxuser] Re: indenting five cells on front side of sheetFw: Versapoint Duo omits five cells from each line on front page

Thanks, the command worked simply enough, but it reset the margin for the entire document, front and back pages alike. How do I reset the margin to indent to cell 6 only for odd or front pages, while the back pages resume the normal setting with the margin at cell 1? Do I have to manually insert the code repeatedly at the top of each page: {ind6} for every odd page, {ind1} for every even page? Thanks.

Hi Douglas,

The Code [ind] (or [ind0] will reset the left margin.

For more detailed information on Margins, see Help: Codes, Styles and
Templates: Codes: Page Margins.

George.

Hope one of you can point me to the steps for resetting indentation of
one side of a page and not both sides. Thanks.

I'm not sure how to reset the indentation of odd or front pages
without
affecting the indentation of even or back pages. Setting line
length or
binding margin for a document affects both sides of the sheet.
Should I
set the line length to 35 cells on both sides and use more paper
than I
would if I could retain the 40 cells for the back? How would
resetting
the indentation affect placement of page numbers on each side?
Might some
text be lost if it overlaps the end of a page on the front, or might
some
text be written on top of new text on the back, creating an
illegible
mess? If I can find the setting or configuration, it might be worth
a
try.
I'll seee what I can come up with eventually. Thanks for your
patience
and understanding. God bless.

Doug, I just thought of a work-around that may keep you in
business: If
you can set the indentation of odd numbered pages to six cells, the
embosser will skip the first five cells and start punching dots on
cell
six. You would only need to do this for the front of each sheet.
The
shorter lines of text would wrap around and overflow to the back of
the
sheet for about two and a half lines. This is something that you
may be
able to do in the Duxbury setup. Alternatively, FS should should
be able
to walk you through the setting changes that will skip the bad
cells on
the front of each sheet. If I were you I would try to get this
idea
implemented before you emboss everything twice. DUXbury Users may
have a
suggestion that will help.

I didn't move or change anything prior to the issue, as far as I
recall.
The embosser was in the same location and set to the same
perimeters,
and nothing was changed on the computer system.
I was doing a multi-copy embossing job, and for a while everything
embossed normally, but over time the text in the first 5 cells on
the
front page started getting weaker and harder to read, and
eventually it
got blank altogether, while text on the back side came out
normally on
all 40 cells. I tried repeatedly to emboss in smaller increments
and
still got text on the front starting in cell 6.
I think one of the solenoids that controls the embossing mechanism
might
have collected a lot of lint or crumpled foam and may just need
cleaning. (My brother got this Versapoint about 6 years ago, and
between
then and now I don't recall having cleaned off any dust or
soundproofing
foam from the solenoids. This might be the first solenoid to be
defected--the first one from the left, which creates the first
five
characters on the front side of paper. The solenoid may have
collected
too much soot or something to properly reinforce the pins to
produce the
desired dots in those five cells.)
The issue had nothing to do with paper not being inserted straight
or
being slightly crumpled; I repeatedly made sure paper was inserted
straight and firmly locked in the tractor feeds, but the problem
persisted. I also ran some embossing tests using the Versapoint
Duo's
configuration menus and perimeter settings so the emboss could
emboss by
itself without being driven by the computer, and still the text
for each
line on the front began in cell 6, with five characters still in
the
buffer but simply not embossed on the paper. So the issue had
nothing
to do with a setting in Duxbury. The page length was set to 40
characters per line, and interpoint was checked. I did try
embossing in
single sided mode but got the same result on the front.
Later emails indicate a defected solenoid and that I should have
it
checked by an engineer.
I did call your support team and all they could recommend was
sending
the device in for service, but it's more than I can afford right
now.
I'll have to keep looking for other alternatives to have someone
here
look over the embosser and it's electronics to see if any of the
inner
parts need cleaning, or have someone come to my place and
investigate
and do what they can. I tried calling a local distributor but
they were
unable to find anyone to come and help; they just said I had to
send the
device in to you.
If Big Doug can supply addidtional information about the device
and call
your support team, I'd happily appreciate it. If you need to
request
further information or details, please address those requests to
my
brother at whistles73@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, or simply reply to all.
Thanks
again for your support and feedback and any help that can be
offered.
