Hi Lisa,

I'm no screen reader expert, but it might make more sense if you were able to
change JAWS to Spanish.

The sentence begins with an inverted (upside down) question mark immediately in
front of the first word - Donde. The fourth word is senores, but there is a
tilde over the letter n.

George.

Subject: [duxuser] foreign language sentence in spanish.

Hi everyone,

I am taking a course in my braille class entitled Other Codes of Braille which
covers computer braille, foreign languages which covers Spanish and French,
music Braille, Nemeth Braille, and an Introduction to Braille Formats for
textbook. I am working on assignment 3 of this course and I am stuck in the
first sentence. When I read it with synthetic speech with JAWS, I have a hard
time understanding the strange characters that are showing in Microsoft Word.
I am using Perky Duck to write my assignment with my Braille Lite 40. I am
using the Foreign Language book from National Braille Association as my
reference tool as well as the English Braille American Edition 1994 revised
2002 as another reference. Does anyone know of any way to understand the
language in reading it in computer Braille?

An example of the sentence is like this:

1. ¿Donde estan los señores Cortés y Suárez?

There are four words that I cannot make out. The fourth word in this sentence
I cannot identify the letter very well with speech. When I read it in Braille,
it looks like the letter n to me. Can anyone make any sense? Any suggestions?

Other examples are as follows:

2. Honi soit que mal y pense.

3. Je suis le president de la companie Golden Enterprises Inc.

4. «¡Viva la revolución!» gritó el grupo estudiantíl.

5. A l'âge de quatorze ans, il renonça à son heritage.

6. Él fue con sus amigos al Grand Canyon.

Use a dictionary and/or the manual to look up the definition of the following
words.

Submit the work in an email:

7. Diphthong

8. Triphthong

9. Digraph

10. Diacritics

I look forward to everyone's responses to these problems.

By the way, I am using JAWS version 5.00.844 as my screen reader with Braille
Lite 40 braille display.
