When you connect the embosser, and get the "Found new hardware"
message, you will usually have an option to put in the manufacturer's
CD. But theer will also be an option to look for drivers in a
specific location. That's when you point to the path I gave you.

If that fails, go to "Devices and Printers" (Goodnes knows why that's
NOT in Control Panel?) and add a printer there.

It wi;ll ask you to select a Port, with LPT1 being the default. Just
accept that for now. Next click "Have disk" where you will then find
a "Browse" button, and will then be able to point to the drivers
folder.

You should then get up a list of Index embossers, so pick your model
from the list.

Once that's done, I'm afraid you will then need to go into properties
for the installed printer, and then Ports. You will then need to go
through the USB ports one by one until you hit the jackpot.

Hopefully Index will sort out this mess fairly soon.

George.

Okay... So am I supposed to do this within DBT or when I connect the
embosser? If it's when I am connecting it, I'm having issues because
Windows is not giving me the opportunity to locate the drivers. It
only searches for them online and then tells me the installation was
unsuccessful. When I try to add it manually, the embosser is never
located for some odd reason.
Thanks.

Well you did say you have Windows 7 - and so do I.

Thanks George. I just realized something so want to make sure this
will still work. I was a bit preoccupied a minute ago. the laptop
actually has Windows 7 on it, not vista. Will that make a difference?

Hi Alyssa,

When adding the Index, point to c:\program files\Duxbury\[DBT
VERSION]\Drivers\Index AB.

I just got a new laptop with Windows 7 installed. The mother board on
my previous one fried, and unfortunately, I lost all programs I had
saved on it. Anyway, I have DBT installed, but I cannot get the
drivers for my Index Basic-D installed. The manufacturer does not seem
to have updated their drivers, so the download manager offered on
their site does not work. Would anyone happen to have these drivers
off list they could send me? If not, is there another way around this?

By the way, the embosser has 10.31 firmware on it in case that makes a
difference. J Thanks.
