I would add the following suggestion to George's.
Open your document in DBT, but BEFORE translating, choose the appropriate
translation table to suit the code used to create the document in the first
place: UEB, BANA (pre-UEB), British (pre-UEB) etc.

Yes, you can back-translate a .brf file, but the results will not always be
good, though usually enough to get the general idea of what the document is
about.
To do this, open the document in Duxbury, then select "Translate" from the File
menu.
Because the original file was formatted for braille, you will find things like
braille page numbers remain.
Also, and especially if the .brf file was not in UEB (Unified English Braille),
you will likely find anomalies in the text.
However, as I said, you should be able to get a good idea of what the document
is all about, and can edit and re-translate if required.
