Hi Maureen,

 

I’m not going to surprise you with an immediate solution, but suffice to say I 
believe I may be making a modicum of progress.

 

First, can I ask you to look at 
http://www.iceb.org/guidelines_for_technical_material_2014.pdf specifically ;
Section 16.6 Electrons.

 

I know this refers to UEB as opposed to Nemeth, but while it visually looks 
like Lewis Dots, it does not actually mention those words.  Is this in fact 
what you want?

 

Now, as regards MathType, I have contacted my wizard, who knows what they are, 
and he has come back with the following:

 

I know enough about Lewis Dots to know MathType does a pretty decent job of 
creating them for sighted users. Here are some I've created (not only dots, but 
bonds as well):

Thanks, I can produce it as a tactile, but if there is a simple braille code, 
that the student will see over and over again as they progress through 
academics, I wanted to use it, and it is simpler for my ‘producers’ to do it in 
math type, and then bring it into duxxbury if possible

Three schools of thought: I have always used tactile graphics with Lewis 
Structures personally. There's also a guidance for using UEB with Science as 
well as the Chemistry Code from 1997 in EBAE and Nemeth.

Do you have a copy of the Braille Code for Chemical Notation? It is available 
online, and I find most of the answers I need for Chemistry there.
